From s’mores to pound cake to grilled donuts, these sweet treats are perfect on the grill. In the summer months, I grill everything. I even love making grilled desserts! The smoky, charred flavor doesn’t just work for burgers, after all! Not only do desserts on the grill bring a whole new level of flavor, but you can be outside with friends and family. What’s better than that on a hot day? Get ready to heat things up with this list of 15 fantastic grilled desserts.
1. Foil Pack Chocolate Marshmallow Banana
We’ve all had those days that end in an impromptu BBQ, where you have no time to whip up dessert. This 3-ingredient grilled dessert is easy, delicious, and a total lifesaver! We all have a bunch of bananas, some left-over chocolates, and a bag of marshmallows in the kitchen. That’s all it takes to whip up this foil-wrapped treat. Just be sure to tightly wrap the foil and be careful when opening. These sweet packs are perfect served alone but would be great next to a scoop of ice cream!
2. Grilled Summer Fruit Skewers
Fruit salad is a summer favorite. After a big burger and maybe a hot dog, it hits that sweet spot without being overly heavy. Grilled fruit has a slightly different sweetness, and the honey and salt are the perfect sweet and savory pairing. Use any fruit you have on hand and remember to soak those skewers in some water before putting over any heat.
3. Grilled Berry Peach Pie Recipe
If you already have the grill going, why would you turn the oven on? This pie can be made using store-bought pastry and any fruit filling you like. Be sure to spray the foil liner and don’t forget the second disposable dish. The first is for the pie, and the second is to protect the base of your pie and help with the airflow. You can use your own metal pie dish if you want to, but I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s a chance it can ruin over time, and the disposables are readily available and pretty cheap. This pie comes together so fast, and you can have it cooking away on your grill while everyone makes room for dessert.
4. Campfire Biscuit S’mores
You’ll need a heavy-duty grill pan for this recipe. Once you have the biscuit mix ready, it’s almost like scooping pancake batter. Cook over low heat for around 2 minutes on either side. This recipe calls for threading your marshmallows with rosemary stalks to melt over your grill. But I think it would be easier to sit them on top of your jam covered biscuits and let them melt while the biscuits finish cooking.
5. Grilled Lemon Pound Cake with Balsamic Berries and Whipped Cream
We all know that as delicious as bread is, it only gets better when toasted and warm. Why wouldn’t the same be true of pound cake? The grill marks against the light cake are so visually appealing, and the warm, slightly charred crumb is perfect. Adding balsamic vinegar to your fruit will only enhance the sweetness, and the colors are fantastic. The recipe here makes a wonderful pound cake… but I won’t tell if you buy one.
6. Campfire Apple Crisp Foil Packets
Foil packs are an amazing way to cook on an open fire. They work at home or when camping and make cleaning up a breeze. For this recipe, you’ll need the apple crisp flavors we all love. Use whatever apple you prefer and feel free to try a different fruit. The cinnamon, sugar, and oat crisp will work with anything. Straight off the heat, scoop some vanilla ice cream onto it, and let it melt in a little for a quick and mess-free grilled dessert.
7. Grilled Donut Ice Cream Sandwich
Want to make a name for yourself as Ultimate Grillmaster? You have to try this grilled donut ice cream sandwich! Now, I know it’s not very common to have left-over glazed donuts. But if you squirrel a few away, your family will thank you. Being day old helps them to hold their shape on the grill, and the heat will soften them right up. You can use plain donuts, but the glaze will caramelize and harden slightly for a wonderful crack on the surface. Filled with ice cream and fruit compote, these will not last.
8. Grilled S’mores Pizza Recipe
If you love pizza as I do, you should invest in a pizza stone. They will change your homemade pizzas into something truly restaurant-worthy, and you’ll never look back. You’ll need to cook your dough (which can be store-bought) for a few minutes on one side and then flip to cook the other. Before closing the lid on the second side, add your Nutella, chopped marshmallows, and graham cracker chunks. This will let the marshmallows melt as the dough finishes cooking. With store-bought dough, you can have this dessert pizza on the table in under 15 minutes.
9. Grilled Strawberry S’mores
No fire pit in your yard? No problem! These s’mores are made by layering graham crackers with chocolate, marshmallows, and strawberry slices into a disposable grill pan. In 2 minutes, you’ll have flame-grilled strawberry s’mores! Once you see how crazy easy they are to make, why not try some with bananas?
10. Baked on the Grill Brownies with Strawberries Dessert
Baking brownies on a grill might sound unlikely, but trust me, it works. You’ll need more of those trusty disposable foil pans. Why not just go ahead and buy a 30-pack for the summer? Be sure your grill isn’t up too high, and check after 15 minutes, then every five minutes thereafter. I would serve these with nothing but some whipped cream and spoons.
11. Banana Butter Pecan Kabobs
For this grilled dessert, bananas and pound cake get brushed with brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. When put over the heat, the sugar will start to caramelize, and the pound cake will toast perfectly. As if that isn’t good enough, it’s served with butterscotch sauce and butter pecan ice cream. I don’t see how it can get any better!
12. Blackout Peach Bread Pudding
For some reason, when I throw a BBQ, I end up with leftover rolls. Like, way more than you would believe. Luckily, bread pudding is crazy delicious, and easy to make. This recipe uses grilled peaches for a real powerful peach flavor. I think strawberries would also work really well. If you don’t happen to have a million hot dog buns left, you can use any bread you have. Chop into cubes and grill ever so slightly. The custard is extra decadent with the added mascarpone, but the pudding will be just as good if you leave it out.
13. Funky Monkey Grilled Cheese
If gooey melted chocolate, marshmallow, banana, and peanut butter are your thing, you should probably go turn the grill on right now. Grilled cheese is such a comfort food, whether plain or embellished with caramelized onions. But this is something else altogether! Your ‘cheese’ comes from a creamy and addicting combination of cream cheese, peanut butter, and honey. Liberally spread onto one slice of brioche, then top with sliced bananas and mini-marshmallows. But wait! There’s more! On that second slice of brioche, spread however much Nutella you think you can handle. Using your grill pan, grill the sandwich for a couple of minutes on either side, until the bread is toasted and the marshmallows are melted. As you can guess, this is not for anyone on a diet!
14. Easy Rum-soaked Grilled Pineapple
If I haven’t made it clear yet – grilled fruit is crazy good! The natural sugars will caramelize and enhance the flavor so well, and the char will just push it all over the edge. So how do you top that? Soak it in rum, of course! Using a brown sugar and rum marinade, soak the pineapple for 15 minutes. Then, just a couple of minutes on either side will do it. You can serve with a scoop of coconut sorbet for an easy and boozy grilled dessert. For an extra kick, simmer the marinade for 6-8 minutes to create a rum caramel sauce that you will want to put on everything.
15. Grilled Dessert Nachos Recipe
Although this recipe calls for your cinnamon sugar-covered tortillas to be fried, they will bake so well on the grill. Keep them separated at first, to allow the heat to do its thing. Then cluster like you would your tortilla chips and cover with a magical combination of caramel, chocolate, and white chocolate. The minute they come off the heat, sprinkle with mini marshmallows, chopped nuts, and pretty much anything else you can think of! I would try a few variations… for science!
