They’re perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and more. You might be wondering: what’s the difference between torte and cake? Well, a torte is essentially a fancy type of cake that’s multi-layered with yummy fillings, like buttercream, jam, curd, nuts, and more.  Of course, the word has different meanings all over the world, so you’ll find a bunch of fun varieties on this list. All you really need to know is that these torte recipes are rich, sweet, and oh so delicious.

1. Hungarian Dobos Torte

Are you feeling a little Hungary? If so, this Hungarian Dobos Torte is sure to hit the spot. It’s dense, filling, and deliciously sweet.  The Dobos Torte features layers upon layers of fluffy sponge and silky chocolate buttercream. The layers are so thin that every bite is balanced and moist.  The whole cake is frosted in buttercream and garnished with slivered almonds for some fantastic crunch. It’s amazing.

2. Flourless Chocolate Torte

I have made this torte for years, and let me tell ya; it is divine! It’s fudgy, Jeff Bezos-rich, and insanely decadent. If you love chocolate, then you need this recipe in your life.  This flourless chocolate torte features a lot of butter, chocolate, and eggs. Plus, a little sugar and almond and vanilla extracts. I like to include a bit of instant espresso as well to enhance the chocolate flavor and add an extra somethin’-somethin’.  Top it with fresh fruit, powdered sugar, mint, or whipped cream. Also, if you underbake this just a tad, it’s FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. The texture is like lava cake and fudge had a baby.

3. Brownie Berry Torte with Vanilla Custard Filling

Remember I said that some tortes are multilayered cakes with fillings, and others are a little different? Well, this is one of the different ones! As the name suggests, it doesn’t have any cake layers. Instead, this brownie berry torte is made with layers of fudgy brownie, creamy custard, and fresh berries. It’s delicious and easy to make, too.

4. Spumoni Torte

Spumoni torte is based on the traditional Italian molded gelato dessert, Spumoni. And it’s seriously tasty! Spumoni is known for its delicious and distinct flavor combination- cherry, chocolate, and pistachio. So, this cake features layers of chocolate and cherry cake with pistachio frosting. Yum! Not only are the flavors of this torte fantastic, but so are the textures. It’s soft and moist with a nice creamy frosting, plus lovely crunchy nuts and chewy cherries. What more could you ask for?

5. Sacher Torte

This Austrian classic is a hit at any party. And I bet your friends and family will think you’ve turned into a French pâstissier.  Sacher torte is made with layers of chocolate cake and boozy apricot jam. Then, the entire thing is enrobed in a rich chocolate glaze. It’s sweet, chocolatey, and just a little tart. One bite, and you’ll understand why it’s been so beloved since 1832.

6. Blackberry Opera Torte (Diva Cake)

Much like an opera, opera torte is precise, layered, and reaches for the sky. And much like the dress code for an opera, this cake is rather fancy. But don’t let that intimidate you! With the right recipe and a little patience, you’ll see that this isn’t so hard. Opera cake is typically made of layers of almond joconde, coffee buttercream, and chocolate ganache. This version skips the coffee and adds some freshness with delicious blackberries.

7. Chocolate Espresso Torte

This chocolate espresso torte is light yet decadent and seriously delicious. But it’s also low-carb, gluten-free, sugar-free, low-calorie (for cake), and pretty guilt-free!  It’s the perfect cheat day dessert because you’re not really cheating. And yet, it tastes like you are because it’s sweet, chocolatey, and creamy. You can’t beat that!

8. Strawberry Torte

If you want a deliciously light and fresh dessert, look no further than this succulent strawberry torte. It’s moist, creamy, and absolutely bursting with fruity goodness.  Featuring a simple vanilla cake topped with vanilla custard and strawberries, there’s also a sweet glaze on top that pushes it to new heights of yum. It’s sweet, simple, and very fresh. I know you’ll love it.

9. Traditional German Black Forest Cake

Black Forest cake is one of the most iconic, dark, and decadent cakes I’ve ever had. If you’ve never had Back Forest cake, you need to try it! It is mouthwatering and perfectly balanced.  You’ll start with a light and airy chocolate sponge. It may seem a little dry at first but have no fear – between each sponge layer is billowy whipped cream and sour cherry filling.  These layers add moisture, texture, and tons of flavor. Finally, you cover the entire cake with more whipped cream and top it with chocolate shavings and cherries.

10. Bavarian Apple Torte

This Bavarian apple torte is apple-solutey fantastic. If cheesecake and apple pie had a baby, it would look something like this. And it’ll make your house smell like fall, which is just the cherry on top. This torte features a buttery shortbread crust topped with a thin layer of raspberry jam. The jam adds just a little tartness to balance the sweet filling, which is made with sweetened cream cheese, cinnamon-sugar apples, and almond slices. The whole torte is soft and creamy, with lovely chunks of baked apples.

11. Pumpkin Torte

Say hello to fall with this pumpkin torte. Trust me when I say that this is not your typical pumpkin dessert. It’s so much better.  You’ll start with moist, lightly spiced layers of pumpkin cake. Then, you’ll add a smooth, tangy pumpkin whipped cream and cream cheese frosting.  Top everything off with a caramel drizzle and chunks of toffee to make it as irresistible as can be!

12. Triple Chocolate Mousse Torte

This torte is light as a feather and seriously delightful. If you love chocolate, you’ll adore this.  It features an Oreo cookie crust topped with three layers of chocolate mousse. One layer is dark chocolate, one is milk chocolate, and one is white chocolate. It’s incredible, balanced, and velvety smooth!

13. Gluten-Free Flourless Chocolate Torte (Kosher for Passover)

This gluten-free, flourless chocolate torte is sublime. It’s rich and chocolatey, and I know everyone will love it! Top it with powdered sugar and fresh berries if you want to make it look fancy. But to be honest, it’s sensational on its own.

14. Old-Fashioned Rhubarb Torte

I feel like rhubarb often gets overshadowed in the dessert world. Or, at the very least, it’s not as celebrated as it should be. Well, not anymore!  This old-fashioned rhubarb torte is bursting with the sweet and sour taste of rhubarb. Plus, the toasted meringue top is so much fun, and I love the marshmallow flavors it brings.

15. Chocolate Bavarian Torte

This Bavarian torte features layers of chocolate cake and brown sugar cream cheese frosting. It’s super simple, but boy, oh boy, it’s delicious!  Garnish with chocolate shavings, and enjoy!

16. Frozen Pineapple Torte

This is the Disney Dole Whip of frozen tortes. One bite, and you won’t want to share! With layers of crushed vanilla wafers, pineapple custard, and fluffy meringue, it’s creamy, tropical, and bursting with pineappley goodness.  Add chunks of mandarin oranges for a cakey take on Frog Eye Salad.

17. Frozen Mocha Torte

What could be better than a sweet and decadent torte? A no-bake torte, of course. And this frozen mocha torte is utterly divine.  It practically explodes with coffee and chocolate flavors. It tastes exactly like a mocha frappuccino; only you get to eat it. It’s all the flavor without the brain freeze.

18. Almond Torte

Almond extract + butter + sugar + flour + eggs + slivered almonds = the most fantastically buttery, delicious treat you’ll ever taste. Now, that’s my kind of math!  But seriously, you should try this torte. Its texture is sort of like a blondie (but cakier), its flavor is buttery almond, and it’s just plain scrumptious.

19. Chocolate Coconut Cake

This is the kind of chocolate cake that reminds you of going to grandma’s house. It’s not fancy, but it’s a perfect little brownie-like slice of chocolate cake. And it’s always topped with ganache.  It’s a very specific kind of cake that’s delicious without all the extra. This particular recipe tastes a little like a Mounds bar since it also features coconut.  It’s moist, soft, and super yummy!

20. Mango Cake with Whipped Cream Icing

Say hello to summer with this insanely good mango cake. If like me, you dream about all things mango, you’ll go gaga over this cake.  This cake has layers of vanilla sponge, white chocolate mango sauce, and fresh mango. There is also whipped cream between the layers to keep it light.  Then, it’s iced with more whipped cream and decorated with more fresh mango. It’s so soft, creamy, fresh, sweet, and tropical. Honestly, this cake is heavenly.

21. Fresh Berry Cream Cake

This cake is berry delicious! And all you need is a simple white cake, almond whipped cream, and a mix of fresh berries.  You can customize this recipe in several different ways. For instance, you can make a chocolate version with chocolate cake and ganache. Make whatever speaks to you – just be sure to make it!

22. Chocolate Pecan Torte (Gluten-Free)

This chocolate pecan torte is sinfully decadent. Fudgy and nutty, with a hint of cinnamon, it’s topped with rich ganache, so it’s over-the-top chocolatey.  This torte will make you go weak in the knees if you love chocolate.

23. Raspberry Rose Angel Food Dream Cake

The name for this cake is very fitting, as it’s pretty dreamy. It’s soft as a pillow, delicate, and delicious.  The cake is rose flavored and, like any good angel food cake, it’s so airy that it practically melts on your tongue. It’s frosted with a light raspberry whipped cream that is simply divine. Top with fresh raspberries, and enjoy!

24. Red, White, and Blue Cake

Prepare for fireworks, because this cake explodes with color! And it tastes pretty great, too. This holiday-perfect treat features vanilla cake and buttercream, colored in patriotic hues.  If you want to break up the sweetness a little, consider adding fresh berries. Berry puree between the layers and more fresh berries on top would be excellent.

25. Pecan Praline Pumpkin Torte

Imagine a Franken-cake with elements of pumpkin bars, caramel rolls, and pecan pie. Add some fresh whipped cream, and you basically have this delicious torte.  It’s perfect for fall get-togethers, holiday parties, or just because you love pumpkin desserts. Click on a star to rate it!
