Can you ever have too many snack mixes? As an avid consumer of Chex Mix, Gardetto’s, and Cheez-Its, I don’t think so. However, being able to make snack mixes at home is even better. That way, when you run out of your favorite, you can simply make more. It saves you money, too. The 17 snack mix recipes here will cover any craving you have. There are sweet and salty mixes, spicy mixes, and everything in between. Planning a Halloween party or large get-together? This list has something to suit those occasions, too. Well, what are you waiting for? Let’s get to snacking!
1. Original Chex Mix
Let’s start with a snack mix everyone knows – a copycat of the original Chex Mix. Chex Mix is still the big name in snack mixes. With this recipe, you can make your own. The key to getting it right is perfecting the spice mixture. You’ll need butter, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. That combination will ensure you make the best Chex Mix copycat. None of your guests will even know the difference.
2. Cookie Crunch Snack Mix
Looking for something to satisfy a serious sweet tooth? The cookie crunch snack mix is perfect. It’s a decadent mix of mini Oreos, Whoppers, Cookie Crisp cereal, and more. It’s outrageously sweet, chocolatey, and a sugar high waiting to happen. It still retains the signature crunchiness that makes snack mixes so satisfying. It’s a kid’s dream come true. Don’t worry, though; you’re going to love it, too.
3. Spooky Halloween Snack Mix
This Halloween snack mix is the perfect mix of sweet, salty, colorful, and crunchy. And it’s spooky, of course! A black bowl, some candy eyes, and spiders will take care of that. You don’t even have to add any seasonings to this one. Just mix up the different snacks and add the spooky decor. It shouldn’t take longer than 5 or 10 minutes.
4. Party Snack Mix
Try the party snack mix if you’re in the mood for something salty, savory, and spicy. It combines all your favorites – Bugles, Chex, pretzels, etc. – and adds plenty of flair. There are plenty of garlic and herb flavors. However, there’s some heat to it, as well.
5. Sweet and Salty Caramel Popcorn Mix
Caramel popcorn mix is sweet and salty, alright, but that’s not all it is! It’s like Cracker Jacks, Chex Mix, and a bowl of potato chips all rolled into one. The rich caramel flavor is addictive. Luckily, all the salt balances it out, so it’s not sickeningly sweet. Be careful with this one, though. It wouldn’t be a stretch to rename it Sweet and Salty Crack. Once you knock back that first handful, it’s tough to stop.
6. Ranch Party Mix
This recipe is great if you don’t want to spend much time making something. You won’t have to worry about getting precise ratios of spices and seasonings. Instead, mix everything and cover it all in a ranch seasoning packet. It provides the snack mix with a ton of flavor in exchange for minimal effort. That’s my kind of recipe!
7. Spicy Snack Mix
I like this mix not just because it’s spicy, although it definitely brings the heat. I appreciate it because it uses less popular ingredients. Most people don’t add goldfish and tortilla chips to their snack mixes. This recipe does, and the result is terrific. The hot spice mixture adds tons of flavor. However, beneath the spices, the tortillas and goldfish hold their own. It’s also one of the more visually attractive options on the list.
8. White Chocolate Chex Mix
I like most varieties of snack mix. Even so, sweet and salty is usually my favorite combo. This festive white chocolate Chex Mix walks that line flawlessly. You’ll add your Chex, pretzels, and other ingredients. Then you’ll toss in some M&Ms and cover it all in melted white chocolate. It’s ridiculously good. You can also swap out the M&M colors and chocolate for different holidays. For instance, use dark chocolate and brown and orange M&Ms for Halloween, and white chocolate and red M&Ms for Valentine’s.
9. Granola Snack Mix
Granola snack mix is a good option for when you want something healthier. Instead of ‘junk food,’ it combines oats, raisins, nuts, etc. It’s the healthiest option, for sure. You can still add some chocolate chips and dried fruit for a bit of sweetness. The recipe calls for dried cranberries. I often substitute dried banana and strawberry chips instead.
10. Indian Snack Mix
Snack mixes are popular all over the world. So don’t limit yourself to the ‘traditional’ snack mixes we eat here in the US. Branch out a little; maybe start with this Indian snack mix. Its main ingredients are puffed rice (Rice Krispies) and nuts. The seasoning mixture screams Indian food, though. There’s cayenne, curry, turmeric, chaat masala, and more. It’s bold, spicy, and just as crunchy as any American snack mix. Give it a shot; I think you’ll enjoy it.
11. Texas Trash
Texas trash is an all-around savory snack mix. It’s a lot like the original Chex Mix. However, it features more nuts and celery salt in the seasonings, along with a few other differences. Even so, if you like Chex Mix, you’ll like Texas trash, too.
12. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzels Snack Mix
This recipe is a simple mixture of peanuts, M&Ms, and pretzels. That alone would make it a sweet-n-salty treat. However, you won’t stop there. Instead, you’ll cover all those ingredients in melted chocolate and peanut butter. It’s rich, indulgent, and will leave your fingers sticky. You certainly won’t mind.
13. Pumpkin Spice Snack Mix
Here’s another excellent choice for Halloween (or any fall party). It includes pretzels, candy corn, Harvest mix, Reese’s Pieces, and more. Want to know the best part, though? Pumpkin spice mix. That’s right – pumpkin spice. Nothing is safe from it anymore; you’ll even add it to your snack mix. Fortunately, it tastes fantastic with brown sugar and vanilla.
14. Chex Mix Roasted Walnuts
Sadly, Chex Mix isn’t compatible with a low-carb or keto diet. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the flavor of Chex Mix, though. As I mentioned earlier, Chex Mix is all about the spice mixture. You can just as easily add that spice mixture to roasted walnuts. It’s a protein-rich, low-carb way to enjoy the crunchy spiciness of Chex Mix. Keep some on hand to snack on throughout the day.
15. Touchdown Snack Mix
Need a grab-n-go appetizer for Game Day? This touchdown snack mix fits the bill! It combines many great snacks – Goldfish, Bugles, chips, peanuts, and more. Once you’ve mixed them, you’ll smother them in popcorn oil and ranch seasoning. It’s a phenomenal combination. Just be sure you make plenty of it. You and your guests will get to the bottom of the bowl quicker than you think.
16. Sweet and Salty Snack Mix
Have you ever had the sweet Chex Mix? This recipe tastes a lot like that. It features pecans, whatever cereals you like best, and pretzels. Then, you’ll add sweet stuff instead of herbs and spices. Corn syrup, light brown sugar, butter, and vanilla extract. Every bite is like a little taste of heaven. Be sure to add a little dash of Kosher salt and baking soda. They help keep it from being too sweet. It still packs a sugary punch, though!
17. Sweet & Spicy Honey Chex Mix
The seasoning mixture for this recipe seems so strange. It has a lot of the usual stuff. There’s butter, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. However, there’s also chili powder and hot sauce. That doesn’t seem too weird, right? Those things go with all the others. But wait – there’s also honey. I know; it seems like such a strange combo. Even so, if you love sweet heat, this recipe is the one for you. If you don’t usually combine sweetness with spice, try it anyway. It’ll surprise you. Click on a star to rate it!
