From the classic chicken parmi to the OG Wiener schnitzel, we’ve got a lot to cover. Did you know that every continent has its own version of schnitzel? There’s a reason for that: it’s super delicious. Made of thinly sliced meat that’s breaded and fried to perfection, it’s tender and juicy with a crispy, golden crust. If you want to keep it simple, try the traditional Wiener Schnitzel. But if you want schnitzel recipes that are a little out of the box, check out numbers 6 and 11!

1. German Schnitzel

One bite of this traditional-style pork schnitzel, and you’ll be transported to Germany. It’s crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and über delicious.  Serve with potatoes and beer, and you’ll practically be a local.

2. Authentic Italian Veal Milanese

Although schnitzel is most commonly known as a German/Austrian dish, it actually originated in Italy. And like its younger Austrian cousin, Cotoletta Milanese is made with veal.  The only real difference is how the meat is treated before breading and frying. Veal Milanese is slightly thicker because the meat is not pounded. It also is bone-in to add extra flavor.  The meat is insanely rich and tender, and the crust is buttery, golden, and crispy.

3. Chicken Schnitzel

Chicken schnitzel is my favorite kind of schnitzel! It reminds me of a classy, adult version of chicken tenders; only it’s way better and definitely not finger food. This schnitzel recipe is so delicious because it has a twist. Rather than using traditional breadcrumbs, you’ll use Panko breadcrumbs.  The result is tender chicken and an ultra-crispy crust. You’ll also use a little Dijon mustard in the egg mix, which adds a flavorful zing!

4. Air Fryer Pork Schnitzel

I don’t think you could ever mistake schnitzel as a healthy food. But with the Air Fryer, you can certainly improve its nutritional value by using less oil.  The result is a super tasty schnitzel that is not dripping grease with every bite. This way, you can really enjoy each ingredient. Yum!

5. Jaegerschnitzel

Rich, meaty, and earthy this Jaegerschnitzel is not your average schnitzel. But it’s just as good, especially if you’re an adventurous eater.  Jaegerschnitzel comes from cuts of wild game, so it’s not for the culinary faint-of-heart. Also, it’s not breaded. That way, you can enjoy the natural flavors of the meat. Instead, it’s smothered in a delicious fatty mushroom sauce. The whole dish is bold and flavorful. No Jägermeister was harmed in the making of this dish. But feel free to have some on the side.

6. Tonkatsu (Japanese Pork Schnitzel)

This Japanese-style pork schnitzel is absolutely delicious. It’s tender, super crispy, and very flavorful. The best part is that it’s served with fresh veggies and a spicy, fruity tonkatsu sauce.  The result is a beautiful balance of fresh versus fried and sweet versus savory. It’s umami to the max!

7. Air Fryer Chicken Schnitzels

With the Air Fryer, you get the same delicious schnitzel with far fewer calories. And it’s great because you don’t have to stand in front of a pan, frying each piece!  The meat is super tender. The crust is super crusty and crispy. So basically, it’s super delicious.

8. Pork Schnitzel with Warm Potato Salad

Pork schnitzel goes well with lots of different sides. However, once you try this warm potato salad, you’ll never want another side again.  The schnitzel features succulent pork, crispy golden breadcrumbs, and it’s simply perfect. But this warm potato salad adds even more oomph to an already amazing dish.  The potato salad is tangy, fresh, and delicious. It features caramelized garlic and onions and fresh dill, so you know it’s good.

9. Chicken Schnitzel Burger

Stop what you’re doing right now and make this delicious burger! Okay, finish reading this list first, but then go make this burger.  The schnitzel is juicy and moist, with a crispy parmesan and Panko crust outside. Meanwhile, the burger has thin-sliced cabbage, fresh tomatoes, and deliciously salty bacon.  All of that is topped with a creamy, sweet, and tangy pickle sauce. It’s like Chick-fil-A on steroids.

10. Turkey Schnitzel (Putenschnitzel Wiener Art)

This Viennese-style turkey schnitzel is an excellent alternative to a regular turkey dinner. It’s savory and crispy, and succulent.  Plus, you don’t have to deal with roasting an entire bird. Turkey breast tends to dry out quickly when cooking. The breading process of schnitzel helps combat that. Instead, you get a delicious, moist, and flavorful turkey every single time!

11. Lemon and Chili Fish Schnitzel

Now, THIS is a schnitzel twist! Instead of egg wash and breadcrumbs, you’ll use mayonnaise and seasoned cornflakes to create the crust.  The fish is flaky, the crust is perfectly crispy, and everything is super fresh.  This recipe is served with a crunchy raw salad of lettuce, radish, and cucumber, tossed in a refreshing dressing made with lemon and dill.  The entire meal is light and delectable. It’s perfect for a summer evening.

12. Pork Schnitzel with Creamy Dill Sauce

Fresh and fried. Creamy and crispy. Sweet-savory and slightly sour. This schnitzel dish is a showcase of delicious contradiction.  This traditional pork schnitzel features sweet-savory meat and a golden, crunchy crust. The schnitzel is served with a briny and tangy sour cream and dill pickle sauce. It’s fantastic!

13. Easy Chicken Parmigiana

This meaty, saucy, and cheesy chicken parmigiana is sure to become a family favorite!  I first had this in Australia, where it’s a pub-food staple and has quite the cult following. You start with a basic chicken schnitzel recipe- seasoned, breaded, and fried to perfection. Then, you top the schnitzel with marinara sauce, ham, and mozzarella cheese – lots of it. Broil everything until the cheese is bubbly, golden, and delicious, then serve with a mountain of thick chips (steak fries). You can customize this dish, too. For example, add veggies or more types of cheese, or switch the ham out for bacon. Seriously, you can’t go wrong here. Click on a star to rate it!
