The McFlurry is a thick and luscious vanilla ice cream blended with crushed candies and toppings. Here in the US, we’ve got a bunch of delightful flavors, including the classics – the M&M’s and Oreo McFlurry. But, did you know there are a variety of fun and fantastic McFlurry flavors offered outside of the US? The McFlurry is available in almost 100 countries, and each of them has their own unique spin on the American (or should I say Canadian) classic.  Fun Fact: The McFlurry was actually invented in Canada in 1995. Thank you New Brunswick! Yup, there’s a lot of good stuff out there that we’re missing out on, and I’m here to give you the inside scoop on the best and craziest ones out there! Here are some of the most epic McFlurry flavors, both in the US and the rest of the world.

1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, USA

Out of all the McFlurry flavors McDonalds has released, this one is my favorite. I just love the combination of peanut butter and chocolate, and when you add that to a cold and creamy vanilla ice cream? Perfection. Sadly, this is no longer available, for reasons I will never understand. I just hope they bring it back soon!

2. Chocolate Orange, The United Kingdom

While they’re both good on their own, I’m not sure how to feel about combining chocolate and orange. But apparently, this citrusy concoction is popular across the pond! Chocolate Orange McFlurry is made with the signature vanilla soft serve, Terry’s Chocolate Orange pieces, and a chocolate orange sauce.

3. Pirulin, Argentina

Pirulin is an Argentinian wafer with a hazelnut filling. Haven’t tried it, but it sounds fantastic! Oh, and they put those in a McFlurry, too, forming a spectacular vanilla ice cream with bits of Nutella-tasting wafer. Yum.

4. Pineapple Oreo, Colombia

Oreos in ice cream is pretty common… but pineapples and vanilla ice cream? Hmm… that’s interesting. Well, in Colombia, there is such a thing as a Pineapple Oreo McFlurry. Can’t imagine what that would taste like, but perhaps it’s like a cross between a regular Oreo McFlurry and a Disney’s Dole Whip.

5. Stroopwafel, Netherlands

Stroopwafel is a Dutch waffle with a thick caramel filling. I haven’t tried it yet, but people say it’s addicting! And in the Netherlands, they’ve decided to mix these crispy waffles with vanilla soft serve and caramel, making a stunning Stroopwafel McFlurry.  Last year, McDonald’s launched the Stroopwafel McFlurry in the US, but for a limited time only, as part of its “Worldwide Favorites” campaign. Were you able to try it?

6. Dulce De Leche, Venezuela

Dule de Leche is a sweet and gooey milk-based dessert from Latin America. It’s quite similar to caramel… but thicker, bolder, and better. And when swirled with a vanilla soft serve and crushed cookies, oh my. I can only imagine how phenomenal that is. Brilliant idea, Venezuela.

7. Matcha, Japan

Matcha has become an obsession among millennials, and I can’t blame them. This powdered green tea from Japan has an array of health benefits, and has a distinct bitter, grass-like taste that, for some reason I can’t explain, I like a lot! That’s why I’m not surprised that a matcha flavored McFlurry was introduced in Japan, Malaysia, and other Asian countries.

8. Bubblegum Squash, Australia

This Australian concoction may sound like the strangest thing you’ve ever heard, but it’s got zero squash in it, so calm yourselves, people!  So, what on earth is in a Bubblegum Squash McFlurry, then? Sweet and pretty things, that’s what. The vanilla soft serve is infused with a super sweet bubblegum flavored syrup and marshmallows, forming that blue, pink, and white dessert that every bubblegum addict could not say no to.

9. Horlicks, Malaysia

Whenever I go to Hong Kong, I always look forward to having a glass of Horlicks. It’s a sweet and grainy beverage made with malt, and can be served hot or cold. Guys, it’s so good, it’s worth every calorie!  The beverage originated in the UK, but is also popular in India, South Africa, and certain countries in Asia.  McDonald’s Malaysia took their Horlicks game a step higher by combining McFlurry and Horlicks, forming a one-of-a-kind dessert that’s guaranteed to tickle your taste buds.

10. Groovy Lime, Again – Malaysia

This Malaysian blend is made with the signature vanilla soft serve infused with nata de coco and and a lime topping that turns the whole dessert green. The peculiar flavor debuted in Malaysia in 2012, where customers had a choice between McFlurry and sundae versions.  Don’t know what nata de coco is? Also known as coconut gel, it is a sweet, chewy, jelly-like product made from coconut water. It originated in the Philippines and is widely used in Southeast Asian countries.

11. Banana Crunch, Malaysia

Wow, looks like Malaysia’s really got their fun McFlurry flavors down! Imagine what banana cream pie would taste like in ice cream form – that’s what this McFlurry flavor is. It’s vanilla soft serve blended with a banana-flavored syrup and some crushed Kellogg’s Coco Pops.

12. Cadbury Creme Egg, Canada

If you think that the McFlurry is an American invention, think again. This thick and swirly concoction hailed from Canada, in a franchise in New Brunswick. One of its most iconic flavors is the Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry, which is sold in most Canadian stores during Easter.

13. Durian, Southeast Asia

I wanted to save the craziest and strangest one for last, so here we go. The Durian McFlurry was available for a limited time in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and boy was it well received. The flavor comprises vanilla soft serve ice cream blended with a durian puree and a crunchy topping. If you’re not familiar with it, the durian is a widely popular Southeast Asian fruit known for its spiky exterior and a God awful smell. It’s got such a foul odor that it’s not allowed in planes! The fruit’s flavor, though, is pure heaven. Click on a star to rate it!
