Creme de cacao is a cacao-based liqueur with notes of rich chocolate and vanilla. It goes all the way back to the 1600s, and it could possibly be one of the first-ever alcoholic beverages ever made! So it’s no surprise why this chocolatey spirit is an essential component of many cocktail recipes. On this list, I’ll give you a rundown of all the greatest ever chocolate-flavored cocktails. From the milkshake-like mudslide to the fancy golden Cadillac, these cocktails will surely tickle your chocolate-loving tastebuds.

1. Brandy Alexander Cocktail

First on our list is the Brandy Alexander cocktail, which is the lesser-known cousin of the White Russian.  This underrated cocktail is a mix of brandy, creme de cacao, heavy cream, and a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg. It’s a creamy, decadent, wintery treat perfect for your holiday festivities. The Brandy Alexander has been around since 1930. It was originally named Alexander Cocktail No. 2, as there was already an existing Alexander cocktail that was basically the same, except it used gin for its base. The Brandy Alexander grew in popularity over the years, eventually surpassing its predecessor.

2. Brandy Alexander Milkshake

Looking at this creamy delight alone already makes me drool. The Brandy Alexander milkshake is the cocktail of my dreams. It’s basically a booze-infused milkshake, so how can anyone say no? Sure, cocktail purists may not approve of this iteration, but it’s delicious, so who cares? It has the same ingredients as a Brandy Alexander – brandy, creme de cacao, heavy cream, and nutmeg. But it doesn’t end there. Making this cocktail extra decadent and luscious is creamy vanilla ice cream. It couldn’t get any better than this!

3. Chocolate Martini

This chocolate martini tastes just like a chocolate bar, in cocktail form.  It’s a combination of Irish cream and creme de cacao, so expect the chocolate flavor to be truly on point. A splash of half-and-half gives it a creamy consistency, while vodka makes it extra boozy. The flavors all come together beautifully to create this delectable, dessert-like drink.

4. Jellyfish Shot

Intriguing name, am I right? The presentation and flavor are even more interesting, though. The jellyfish shot is a layered cocktail of creme de cacao, amaretto, Irish cream, and grenadine. This is one decadent drink, for sure.  It only takes one look to understand how the jellyfish shot got its name. I know what you’re thinking – this cocktail looks way too complicated to make. But think again. This is actually a quick and easy recipe that requires no mixology training, at all. All it takes is some careful pouring to pull it off. A word of caution: as cute and charming as this drink is, it’ll definitely sneak up on you. I say it’s worth the hangover, though!

5. Commodore 64

The Commodore 64 adds a chocolatey spin to the original, citrusy Commodore No. 2. If you’re a fan of the chocolate and orange combo, this cocktail is definitely a must-try. Commodore No. 2 is a mix of bourbon, lemon juice, and grenadine. In the 64 variation, a splash of creme de cacao is added for more depth and flavor. The result is a delicately sweet cocktail with a wonderful balance of chocolate and citrus flavors.

6. Flora-Bama Bushwacker

Chocolate and coconut team up to make one heck of a refreshment.  The Bushwacker is perhaps one of the most decadent cocktails known to man, and I love it. A creamy, frozen blend of rum, creme de cacao, Kahlua, milk, and coconut milk, think of it as a crossover between a chocolate milkshake and pina colada. This recipe is a copycat of the Flora Bama Bushwacker. If you haven’t tried this famous beach bar’s Bushwacker yet, you’re in for a treat. In this version, you’ll combine rum, spiced rum, Kahlua, amaretto, creme de cacao, and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s so good, thinking about it gives me goosebumps!

7. Mudslide Drink

If stories are to be believed, the first mudslide was created when a customer had ordered a White Russian at a bar, but the bartender was out of heavy cream, so he used Irish cream instead. Don’t you just love these happy accidents?  Whatever its true origins are, one thing’s for sure: the mudslide is a chocolate lover’s dream come true. A blend of vodka, Irish cream, Kahlua, creme de cacao, and chocolate ice cream, the mudslide is absolutely sinful and heavenly. It may not be the most sophisticated cocktail on this list, but it’ll definitely make your heart happy.

8. Grasshopper Drink

I’m not fond of green cocktails in general, but the grasshopper is an exception. Mint chocolate, for the win! This cocktail has a blend of creme de menthe, creme de cacao, and cream. Think of it as a mint chocolate milkshake for adults. Its glowing green hue alone is enticing, but it’s that perfect combination of chocolate and mint that’ll leave you wanting more.

9. Golden Cadillac

A golden Cadillac is a sophisticated cocktail of Galliano (an herbal liqueur), creme de cacao, and cream. It’s finished off with a sprinkle of nutmeg for a hint of nuttiness. With a blend of chocolate, cream, herbs, and spices such as nutmeg and anise, this cocktail is absolutely unique.  It dates back to the 1950s and isn’t as popular now as it was before, but I think it deserves a comeback.

10. Snickers Martini

You had me at Snickers. Seriously, anything with Snickers on it is already a sure winner, and a martini is no exception. This recipe doesn’t contain an actual Snickers, per se, but believe me, it does taste like the beloved candy bar. Made with caramel syrup, creme de cacao, amaretto, hazelnut liqueur, peanut butter, and vanilla creamer, this Snickers martini is the stuff of legends.

11. Cake Batter Martini

This martini isn’t made of actual cake batter, but it sure does look and taste like one! If you’re looking for a fun and colorful cocktail for your next party, the search is over. Cake batter martini is the clear winner. The base is made of cake vodka, creme de cacao, amaretto, white chocolate liqueur, and whipping cream, so yes, this cocktail is decadent, for sure. What makes it even more over the top is the nonpareils-rimmed glass. It’s party-worthy, indeed.

12. Mocha Eggnog

With this luscious mocha eggnog, ‘tis definitely the season to be jolly.  Make your Christmas morning extra festive with this delectable drink! A combination of prepared eggnog, coffee, chocolate syrup, and creme de cacao, this drink is the ultimate coffee and eggnog mash-up you didn’t know you needed. Whether you take your eggnog warm or cold, this recipe won’t disappoint. It tastes amazing no matter its temperature.

13. White Chocolate Martini

Let’s cap off this list with another festive cocktail that you absolutely must add to your Christmas menu. Your holidays will be more fun and memorable with this white chocolate martini. A mix of white chocolate liqueur, creme de cacao, vanilla vodka, and cream, it’s a cocktail and dessert in one.  Think white chocolate mousse meets martini. It’s creamy and chocolatey with a kick.
